Travelroute.
Planning
too much of the final route is a mistake which most often occurs when
people decide to go for a trip around the word. It almost happened to
me, too. For this reason, I skipped my original plan to start with a
bicycle trip from Lhasa (Tibet) to Katmandu (Nepal) and reduced my plans
- for the beginning - to Africa and South America, the continents I`ve
never visit before.
After a couple of weeks of physical and mental preparation (incl.
Spanish lessons) I left for Africa on August 24th, 1999. The full report
from my Africa trip is already on the africa
page. After an Octoberfest-rest back in Germany I left for South
America on October 2nd.
My South America trip started with language school in Ecuador
and a visit to Galapagos. Mid November
I climbed Cotopaxi (5.897 m) in Ecuador.
Then i visited Machu Pichu (the
famous Inka-ruins) and the beautiful lake of Titicaca.
On December 3 rd I flew from La Paz (Bolivia) to Santiago de Chile.
The expedition up Acongagua - highest
mountain of the Americas - ended at x-mas. I started the new millennium
in Santiago de Chile and then went down to Pucon. Mid January I left
the continent and took a long flight to Aspen in Colorado. After a week
skiing I went back to Miami. I
rented a car and went down to Key West and later to the
Everglades. At the beginning of February I finally flew
into good old New York City. I returned to Germany by
the end of the month.
